Today I wanted to share one of my favorite recipes. More than the dish, I have a lot of childhood memories attached to this. It’s a must dish for my birthday every year and I still remember the aroma of the spices and freshly grounded masala. Oh, miss my grand mom’s bisi bele bath !!! Though I don’t make it that traditional way, it’s good enough to fulfill my craving.I started using MTR bisibelebath powder and it tastes really good. Check out my version of bisibelebath guys!!!

Preparation Time:  45 minutes
No of Servings: 4

Ingredients:

Toor dal: 3/4 cup
Rice: 1 cup
Tamarind Pulp: Big Lemon size.
Onions: 1
Carrots:2
Bottle guard: 1/2 cup
Green Beans: 8
Tomatoes: 1
Potatoes: 2
Turmeric: pinch
Red chilies: 2
MTR Bisibelebath powder: 3-4 tbsp.
Cashew Nuts: 2 tbsp.
Peanuts: 1/4 cup
Cumin Seeds: 1 tsp.
Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp.
Ghee: 3 tbsp.
Salt: As per taste
Water: 1-2 cups
Curry Leaves: Few
Asafoetida: pinch

Method:

  • Wash and cook rice with rice 1: water 2 ratio.
  • Wash and cook toor dal separately.

 

 

 

 

  • Wash, cut and cook all vegetables for 1 whistle.

 

 

 

 

  • Mix vegetables and toor dal well.

 

 

 

 

  • Add rice to it along with turmeric.

 

 

 

 

  • Make a thick pulp of tamarind paste and mix bisibelebath powder in it.
  • Add the mixture to rice and mix it well.

 

 

 

 

  • Adjust the consistency by adding water.
  • Cook it on stove top for 10-15 mins.
  • Take a pan and heat it with 3 tbsp. of ghee in it.

 

 

 

 

  • Add peanuts and cashew nuts to it and fry them well.
  • Add cumin and mustard seeds and when they splutter, add asafoetida,red chilies and curry leaves to it.

 

 

 

 

  • Transfer the mixture to the rice and turn off the heat.
  • Serve it hot with papads.
